Eternal Reading
This project had its kick off at the Digra Conference 2011 in Hilversum, titled: “Think Design Play”. This was a conference about: games and play. Fakkeldij, as a speaker, had invited many people from the field of art and gaming and literature, to add 5 sentences to the reading he was going to perform.
During this reading the audience was able to force a brake by using “the magic spoons”; put them up, make a sound, and Fakkeldij stops the reading, picks a card from a box on which a tasks to perform is written. It can be all kind of tasks like singing a song, or sing-a-long, or do something together (see the pics, movies yet to come).
Eternal Reading is based on the automatic writing of the surrealist, by which the last person adds lines to the written material of the person before him/her, but only sees the last sentence and not what has been written before.
It is also based on Mail Art, which was done by many artist from all over the world by sending each other art-material around a certain theme and exhibiting it, by using the postal system. “I use the digital system but it will never be the same as realy getting a parcel or a letter or a real piece of art…. Partly the information of the reading was gathered by asking people life, to add their five sentences. As I want to keep it as original as possible I have kept the written language mostly as it was, so may be with mistakes, an with no interpretations, but that was how it was written down.”
